Grade 5 Rubrics — All Core Subjects
One source of truth for how work is scored across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The same 4-point bands run through every subject so a single number on the report means the same thing in any class.

| 4 — Exceeds | 90–100% | Accurate, with reasoning that connects evidence to the model and applies thinking to a new context. |
| 3 — Meets | 80–89% (mastery threshold) | Standard met with grade-level vocabulary and at least one specific piece of evidence. |
| 2 — Developing | 60–79% | Partial understanding; one of claim, evidence, or reasoning is missing. |
| 1 — Beginning | Below 60% | Re-anchor with a phenomenon, model, or worked example before retesting. |

| 2 — Developing | 60–79% correct | Understands the model but makes process errors; needs targeted re-teaching. |
| 1 — Beginning | Below 60% correct | Conceptual gap. Re-anchor with manipulatives or visual models before retesting. |

| 2 — Developing | 60–79% | Partial understanding; CER is missing one of claim, evidence, or reasoning. |

Science Notebook Rubric
Quarterly check of the lab notebook

| Setup & Date | Every entry dated and labeled | Bound notebook (no loose paper). Question and date appear at the top of each entry. |
| Observations & Data | Tables, drawings, units | Quantitative data in tables; qualitative observations in complete sentences. |
| CER Quality | Claim → Evidence → Reasoning | Claim answers the question; evidence cites data; reasoning connects to the science. |
| Revisions | No erasures | Mistakes crossed out with a single line; thinking history is preserved. |
