The Curriculum

Anchor the year with the physical geography of the Americas, then meet the first peoples and the three great civilizations — Maya, Aztec, and Inca. Math grounds place value and decimals to thousandths; science investigates matter at the particle level.

Europeans cross the Atlantic and the world is rearranged. The Columbian Exchange becomes the analytical lens for the rest of the year. Math turns to multi-digit multiplication, division, and unlike-denominator fractions; science traces matter and energy through ecosystems.

Students compare governments and economies across the Americas, study the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, and explore Earth's four spheres in science. Math is the heaviest fraction quarter — multiplying and dividing fractions, plus decimals to hundredths.

The year culminates with immigration, cultural diversity, and contemporary issues across the Americas, paired with astronomy and space systems. Math closes with the coordinate plane and 2D figure classification. Students assemble a year-end portfolio and cumulative project.
